What is edge computing?

Edge computing is a distributed computing paradigm that brings computation and data storage closer to the location where it is needed, in order to reduce the amount of data that needs to be transported back and forth between the client devices and centralized data centers or the cloud. In this model, computing resources and data storage are placed at the edge of the network, typically in close proximity to the devices generating the data or requiring the processing, such as IoT devices, sensors, mobile phones, and other edge devices.

By processing data closer to where it is generated, edge computing can help reduce network latency, improve response times, and reduce the costs associated with data transmission and storage. This can be especially important for applications that require low latency, such as real-time data processing, autonomous vehicles, and industrial automation.

Edge computing can take many different forms, depending on the specific application and requirements. It can include anything from small edge devices, such as Raspberry Pi or Arduino, to powerful edge servers and gateways. The processing and storage resources can be provided by a variety of sources, including cloud providers, telecom operators, and specialized edge computing providers
